Clematis 'Ville de Lyon'

Medium to large flowers in early summer, small to medium sized later. Bright red to purple-red flowers with a pinker bar which fades with sun or age to a more purple colour. Anthers pale yellow-green to yellow on creamy-white filaments. In 1912, William Robinson in his book 'The Virgin's Bower' lists this cultivar as "trusted to give lovely effects if culture and position be all [it] deserves."
